Hastings-Sunrise: A Fantastic Family-Friendly Neighbourhood in East Vancouver

Located in a diverse and vibrant area with plenty of natural and cultural amenities close by, Hastings-Sunrise has it all.

Hastings-Sunrise: Overview

Hastings-Sunrise is a highly desirable working-class neighbourhood home to a stunning array of amenities. The Pacific National Exhibition and Playland, an amusement park, are nearby. However, this gem of a neighbourhood in East Vancouver is much more than just roller coasters.

With sweeping panoramic views of the North Shore Mountains and Burrard Inlet, Hastings-Sunrise is conveniently located close to some of Metro Vancouver's favourite attractions and most historical landmarks.

Threads of History, Beautifully Woven

Hastings-Sunrise is one of the most historic neighbourhoods in Vancouver. Initially, it was designated as the location for a harbor city by the Province of BC in the mid-19th century. The area was originally called New Brighton and was intended to complement New Westminster as a sister harbour city.

The Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood was home to Vancouver's first road, hotel, post office, telephone, and real estate. A ferry service between Burrard Inlet and Victoria also operated from Hastings Townsite. The area was not officially incorporated into the City of Vancouver until 1911.

Plenty of Shops and Services

Hastings-Sunrise is one of the most established neighbourhoods in Vancouver. The area is mainly residential but has a dense concentration of shops and services along East Hastings Street. Commercial establishments and services are also located along Nanaimo Street, Broadway, Boundary Road, and Renfrew Street.

Stunning Nature

In terms of nature, the forests and mountains of the North Shore are just over the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge (Second Narrows). Attractions such as Grouse Mountain, Mount Seymour, and Cypress Provincial Parks, with breathtaking views, are less than 35 minutes away in regular traffic.

Vibrant Culture

Cultural amenities are always close when you are in Hastings-Sunrise. Some of the best breweries and eateries in East Vancouver and Downtown are only a bus or bike ride away. Trendy East Van, including Commercial Drive, is within walking distance. You can enjoy a good stroll after an entertaining outing and get home safely if you have too much fun.

Abundant Recreation Opportunities

Hastings-Sunrise features plenty of parklands. The Thunderbird Community Center and Hastings Community Center are both located within the confines of Hastings-Sunrise. Dog lovers will enjoy the New Brighton, Sunrise, and Dusty Greenwell off-leash dog areas with ample room for dogs and their owners to run around and have fun. Cyclists will appreciate the dedicated bike lanes that enable them to commute to work downtown or to ride over the bridge to the North Shore.

Hastings Park, located in the neighbourhood of Hastings-Sunrise in Vancouver, boasts over six hectares of land, including various recreational areas such as the Italian Gardens, Celebration Plaza, and The Sanctuary. The City of Vancouver has added a network of pedestrian and cycling trails throughout the park, making it an enjoyable and accessible destination for locals (which may be you soon).
